Roman Christians navigated a maze of issues because of their location in the Roman Empire's largest and most important city. They faced unprecedented persecution from without (because they were Christians) and sharp disunity from within (because of their diverse Jewish and Gentile backgrounds). Into this chaotic cultural moment, Paul presents his most profound theological writing on the doctrine of salvation, hoping that Roman Christians find courage and hope in the gospel and become an effective launching point for ongoing missions. For generations, Paul’s message to the Romans has resonated: God’s righteousness is revealed to those who believe in Jesus Christ. In this 14-week fall series, we’ll cover a broad array of topics through the lens of Paul’s letter to the Romans. We’ll see parallels between Roman culture and our own and learn to navigate the current chaotic cultural climate through the unchanging truth of God’s Word. Our main goal will be to explore the doctrine of salvation in order to build a strong foundation of courage and hope for the days ahead. Just as Roman Christians lived as a city on a hill in the City of Seven Hills, we hope to live as a beacon of eternal light in a dark world.
