What does it look like to belong?
"Being part of a group is probably the greatest asset to our family’s faith and one of the best parts of going to NewSpring. Gathering together every other week (and hanging a lot in between) with this intimate, loving group of friends truly reinforces just how personal this faith is—not just with Jesus, but with one another.
We’ve been part of this group for five years now, and the members are not only our best friends but also family. All our kids are best friends. Our kids get excited for group gatherings more than just about anything else.
We study the Word and pray together, but honestly, the majority of our time is spent in fellowship. Hanging out, eating, and swapping stories about all the insane things our kids did that week (or right that moment) and seeking wisdom for how we might react. We celebrate good times, and we grieve and support each other in bad times. This year, the group really encouraged Mandie and me to participate in 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting. Our kids have seen us in prayer and in the Word more than ever.
One thing we’ve celebrated over the years is when one of the kids in our group accepts Christ. Well, recently, our two oldest did just that; the biggest decision of their lives on a random Wednesday after devotion with Mom before lessons. We have no doubt that being in a group, walking through this life with these other Christians who push us daily to grow deeper in our relationship with Christ is what produced that in our sons."
