Celebrating Addiction to Freedom
“I was introduced to drugs in the 5th grade and slowly turned into what is called a "trash can addict." By the time I graduated, there were only a few drugs that I hadn’t done. I was addicted to everything and anything that was available. I lied, cheated, and stole from people I loved, even my own family. In April 2021, I was actively addicted to meth. I was high when I walked into NewSpring Church and found a seat right in the middle of the room. As the music started playing, I just started crying. I heard about total forgiveness and felt Jesus next to me, His hand on my shoulder. I leaned into him, and He kept me on my feet, and I heard him say, "Welcome Home."
That day was the last time that I used. Two weeks later, I found out I had a son on the way. A few months later, I was hired by the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier, and so I started my new life. In 2023, I started serving on the Safety Team at church, and in August of that year, I was baptized. Today, my son is four years old, I hold a career position as a federal employee in USPS, and I am five years completely clean of all substances. This year, I stepped into a leadership role for our Men’s Discipleship Group on Thursday nights. God brought me to this church and then gave an addict a home and an even better family.”
When we play a part in For SC, we are playing a part in God’s restorative work in our state! Whether it is serving at For SC Serve Day or serving directly with one of our partners, will you ask God how He may be calling you to play a part?
